First off, this thing is a beast! At 17.5 inches, it’s got some serious heft to it. Right out of the box, you can tell it’s built to last. The handle feels solid and comfortable to grip, and the hatchet head itself is sharp and ready for action.
I took it out on a camping trip last weekend, and it performed like a champ. Chopping firewood was a breeze. The weight of the hatchet did a lot of the work for me, and it made short work of even some pretty thick branches. It’s got a nice balance to it, which helps with control when you’re swinging it.
The Freescape hatchet also comes with a handy sheath that keeps the blade covered when you’re not using it. Safety first, right? Plus, there’s a notch in the handle that’s designed for securing it to a rope or a stick, which is a neat little feature.
One thing to note is that it’s a bit on the heavier side, so if you’re looking for something super lightweight for backpacking, this might not be your best bet. But for car camping or just having around the house for yard work, it’s perfect.
